STUDENTS NEED TO Speak French at all times Be organized and ready to learn Bring to class only necessities Electronics in lockers Have a positive attitude Be respectful of their peers and all adults in the building Be respectful of our work environment
PARENTS ARE INVITED to come to our classrooms anytime To join all our field trips/science labs, etc. To attend PAC meetings To volunteer in the school To share their concerns about their child with teachers To communicate with teachers
WE NEED YOU TO KNOW Grade 8 is the first year of a “Secondary Curriculum”: the expectations are therefore higher/more demanding than grade 7 Our job is to see that your child is ready for Secondary School – Grade 9! Curriculum will be demanding at times, be prepared for homework! Contact us right away if you have any questions or concerns Very seldom will your child have “no homework” On a typical day: about 1 hour of homework
AND ALSO THIS… • Speaking French in class is mandatory for all students • Grade 8 is an important “bridge” year in your child’s education • Positive communication between home/school is important for a successful year • Please contact us anytime: email/phone/drop by • A bilingual “Dogwood” Certificate will open doors for your child once he/she graduates

PHYSICAL EDUCATION • 3 times a week • Students are responsible for 2 DPA activities per week • Proper footwear and appropriate P.E. Strip is a MUST!!! • We will be outside rain or shine – sport dependant • I.P.A.E.P
EVALUATION 1 to 5 grading system 5-A: Student exceeds expectation 4- B: Student fully meets expectations 3- C+: Student meets expectations 2-- C: Student minimally meets expectations 1: C- Student is not within expectations I: Incomplete work F: failed
EVALUATION Assignments/Projects/Homework – 60% Oral Presentations (Individual/Groups) – 40% Formative assessment: questions & answers, discussions, quizzes, oral presentations, mini- labs, and demonstrations Summative assessment: projects, research papers, essays, presentation, tests and exams
