  1. Look at the political cartoon at the top of the handout. Answer the four accompanying questions below the cartoon. HOTA Review (28 days until the exam!)

  2. What are the Americas? • United States, land previously controlled as 13 colonies by England (1607-1783) • Latin America controlled primarily by Spain from 1492-1825 • Motivation of Spaniards vs. British? • 3 G’s • Mercantilism • Salutary Neglect • Navigation Acts (1650-1673)

  3. Historical investigation • Your group will be assigned a colony. Each of you will work together to research life in that colony. • Afterwards, you will each write a 1 pg. response about your life in that society. • How would you be treated by others in your society? • What would your economic situation be like? • How would you feel about your nation’s foreign policy goals? • Would you have a religious affiliation, and if so, what would that mean to you? • How would you feel about your government?

  4. Next class • We will delve into the American Revolution, focusing on origins, military strategy and historiography of the revolution. • To prepare: bring your Zinn reading and be prepared to discuss you findings, questions and comments from his research.
