  1. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? By Jack Jacobs

  2. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? Once upon a time, there was a land called Texas that was once a part of a country called Mexico. One day, Texas decided it wanted to independent, or by itself.

  3. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? However, Mexico did not agree with Texas. Mexico still wanted Texas as a part of its country. Then one day, a man named James Polk was elected as the president of the United States of America.

  4. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? Mr. Polk was elected president because he was in favor of adding and expanding more land for America, such as Texas. Then about one year later, Texas was added as a state of the United States of America.

  5. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? After this, Mexico was angry. Plus, America was still greedy for more Mexican land. One year later, the two countries were still angry, so America declared war on Mexico.

  6. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? In the first four battles of the war, America won each battle. On their way, the Americans were marching closer and closer to Mexico’s capital, Mexico City.

  7. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? Then came the battle of Churubusco. First the Americans stormed the fort of Contreras, and then attacked the Mexicans at Churubusco, a small village just south of Mexico City. Even though the Mexicans had many more soldiers, the Americans won and Mexico fled.

  8. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? Finally after this past war, the final battle of the war occurred, Chapultepec. In this battle, the American troops attacked Chapultepec, the hill guarding the Mexico City gates. As the attacks continued, the Americans eventually entered Mexico City, and the war was over.

  9. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? After the war was over, a treaty, or peace agreement, was made between Mexico and America. The treaty was called the Treaty of Guadalupe- Hidalgo. Not only did America add Texas to their country’s land, but they also received parts of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming!

  10. Why is Mexico a Separate Country? Now after this land gain, there was a vast mixture of culture. This meant that people with different religions, beliefs, ethnicity, and skin color would soon be colliding together. Now, you truly know why Mexico is a separate country to the United States of America.
