Self Driving Car Service By: Tyler Lederman, Timothy Cao, and Ezra White
Overview Autonomous Cars are capable of fulfilling the human transportation capabilities of a traditional car while sensing its environment and navigating without human input • No need to pay attention to the road. • Spend time doing other things, while traveling.
Demographic • Elderly, Handicapped, and people without licenses. • Businesses that need to transport their goods/products.
Technology Google's robotic cars have about $150,000 in equipment. The vehicle generates a detailed 3D map of its environment. The car then takes these generated maps and combines them with high-resolution maps of the world, producing different types of data models that allow it to drive itself.
The Service • Remotely access a vehicle through your smart phone and signal it to your exact location. • Enter in the location you want to go to and enjoy the ride!
Service Cont. • Centralized parking garage to refuel/recharge vehicles. • Allows for long distance and extravagant travel.
Advantages • Fewer traffic collisions • Autonomous system’s increased reliability and reaction time compared to humans • Higher speed limits • Removal of constraints on occupant’s state • Ex: Underage, Overage, Blind, Distracted, Intoxicated • Allow people to sleep during overnight travel • Reduction in need for traffic police and car insurance Disadvantages • Reliance on autonomous cars produces less experienced drivers for when manual drive is needed
Predictions • By 2015, Audi, Cadillac, and Nissan plan to market vehicles that can autonomously perform functions such as steering, accelerating, and braking • By 2016, Mobileye expects to release fully autonomous car technology • By 2018, Google expects to release their autonomous car technology • In 2035, IHS Automotive report predicts that most self-driving vehicles will be able to operate completely without human control
