PUBERTY WEB QUEST JIGSAW • THE TASK: • To learn proper health terms, physical changes and exploring questions about puberty. • Daily agenda will be the same as the web quest. • Must complete the assigned task on the web quest for each day in the workbook. • Packet due date: January 7, 2013 • 1. INTRODUCTION: • Puberty is referred to a “Roller • Coaster Ride.” • Puberty can be exciting, but • teens can feel nervous • or anxious. • Changes during puberty • do not happen at the • same time for everyone • Puberty Web Quest gives you • an opportunity to explore the areas you want more information about. • QUESTIONS AND CONCLUSION: • Questions can be placed daily in the question box or directly to Mrs. Dipzinski • Conclusion – after completing web question, you should feel more comfortable about the changes of puberty. • Additional information can be found at: http:// kidshealth.org/kid/ • THE PROCESS, GRADING AND RESOURCES: • Information is provided on the Web • ONLY can go to websites designated. • CANNOT go to any other website • Bring ear buds/headphones to listen to readings/videos. • 60 points for days 1-6 • Day 7 – 40 points based on rubric • Day 8 – 20 points based on rubric

Objectives – SWBAT: Identify the importance of healthy self esteem and body image. Create a SMART goal to improve personal self esteem and body image. Peer collaborate on notes. PUBERTY UNIT AGENDADAY 3 – Male and Female Reproductive Systems • Take out Puberty Web Quest Workbook. • Log onto the website and access the web quest through the library site. • Complete the journal question on page 7 then, • Label and define the parts of the male reproductive system on the worksheet in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook page 8 using the interactive link below: http://kidshealth.org/teen/interactive/mrs_it.html#cat20449 • Label and define the parts of the female reproductive system on the worksheet in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook page 9 using the interactive link below: http://kidshealth.org/kid/interactive/female_it.html • PAIR-SHARE: Compare notes with a peer (same gender) and get any notes that you do not have written down. • Closing: Place ½ sheet of paper in the question box with one thing you learned or one question you have about puberty. PUBERTY UNIT AGENDADAY 5 – Male Issues and Menstruation • Take out Puberty Web Quest Workbook and log onto the website and access the web quest through the library site. • Read/listen to the article on Male issues and fill out the worksheet in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook page 13. http://kidshealth.org/kid/grow/boy/down_there.html#cat20449 • Read/listen to the interactive video on Menstruation/ Periods and fill out the worksheet in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook page 14. Go to: http://kidshealth.org/kid/interactive/female_it.html and click on the top of the picture to “GO TO MENSTRUAL CYCLE” You will need to play each section and record the notes. • Go back and complete any sections not completed. • PAIR-SHARE: Compare notes with a peer (same gender) and get any notes that you do not have written down. • Closing: Write a summary at the bottom of the Cornell notes page that corresponds to the notes you took (homework if not completed in class). Objectives – SWBAT: Explain two male issues and how to deal with them. Distinguish the phases of the menstrual cycle and ways to deal with the menstrual cycle. Peer collaborate on notes. PUBERTY UNIT AGENDADAY 6 – Physical, Social, Emotional Changes • Take out Puberty Web Quest Workbook and log onto the website and access the web quest through the library site. • Question box --- Inquiring minds want to know responses. • As a large group we will be reading the article “What’s Happening to my Body?” in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook pages 17-19. • Highlight, text tag and make connections on the article together on these pages. • PAIR-SHARE: Compare notes with a peer (same gender) and get any notes that you do not have written down. • Closing: Write a summary at the bottom of the Cornell notes page that corresponds to the notes you took (homework if not completed in class). Objectives – SWBAT: Connect with mental/emotional and social changes during puberty and how to deal with them from the article. Peer collaborate on notes. Summarize (SAR) what was learned about menstruation and male issues.
PUBERTY UNIT AGENDADAY 7 – PERSONAL PUBERTY PLAN • Take out Puberty Web Quest Workbook. • Each of you will create a personal puberty plan using the information you gathered during the past six (6) classes. • Using the JUST DEAL WITH IT – MY PUBERTY PLAN worksheet in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook page 21, complete your personal puberty plan based on EVERYTHING you have learned during this web quest. • Grade yourself on the rubric in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook page 20 (40 points) • Hand in Puberty Plan and Rubric on Monday, January 7, 2013. Objectives – SWBAT: Reflect and create a personalized Physical, Mental/Emotional and Social Puberty Plan with personal puberty changes and ways to deal with the changes. Self-assess Puberty Plan on a Rubric.
PUBERTY UNIT AGENDADAY 8 – Puberty Letter of Advice • Take out Puberty Web Quest Workbook. • Now's the time to put your learning into a letter you'll send to another 6th grader of your own gender. As an advice columnist (sample on page 22 of the Puberty Web Quest Workbook), you will give them advice on how to maintain a good self-image while experiencing the changes of puberty. • Grade yourself on the rubric in the Puberty Web Quest Workbook page 23 (20 Points). • You will hand in this letter and rubric on Monday, January 7, 2013. • EVALUATION:Please fill out the evaluation form for Mrs. Dipzinski on page 24 of the Puberty Web Quest Workbook. Objectives SWBAT: Predict what a student of their gender would need to know about puberty in an advice letter. Self-assess advice letter on a Rubric. Evaluate the effectiveness of the puberty unit.
