Background • Pilot service across 20 pharmacies in 2012 • GP resistance to service • Started 1st November 2012 • Added in > 65s in December • Reviewed in February 2013 • 232 vaccinations from 16 pharmacies • Public Health team happy with service Berkshire LPC - Improving the Health of the County through Pharmacy

  3. 2013 Service • Unable to get more than last year’s pilot repeated- “steady state” mentality • 18 pharmacies selected • Most were involved in 2012 • No training delivered • Started 4th October Berkshire LPC - Improving the Health of the County through Pharmacy

  4. What issues have we had? • Delayed PGD • Limited PR support • Posters late • Little national publicity • Pharmacists slow to engage • Selection of pharmacies Berkshire LPC - Improving the Health of the County through Pharmacy

How are we doing • 15 pharmacies engaged to date • 312 patients seen • Using PharmOutcomes to monitor delivery and review service • Engaged local Public Health Director to gain support • Voucher scheme for Carers/ Front line staff Berkshire LPC - Improving the Health of the County through Pharmacy

Funding Proposal • Good example of where working together makes us stronger • 3 bids submitted to increase chance of success • All bids approved • Project Board – 3 Chief Officers plus 1 LPC member • Project Co-ordinator recruitment Berkshire LPC - Improving the Health of the County through Pharmacy

The projects • Carer Identification and Support – 95k • To help our teams understand the issues that carers face and how to support them • Dementia Awareness training - 95k • To help make our pharmacies dementia friendly environments and raise awareness of the disease • Healthy Living Champions - 332k • To train members of the team to be better equipped to pro-actively deliver health interventions Berkshire LPC - Improving the Health of the County through Pharmacy
