The following are Actual AR Code of Ethics Allegations/ Cases and their Resolutions 2008-2010
Allegation: An educator allegedly hit a student with a marker. The marker bounced off the desk, but there was no resulting injury to the student Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator was given a written warning.
Allegation: An educator had allegedly sexually touched several students. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator’s license was permanently revoked.
Allegation: An educator allegedly stole money from PTA funds. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard # 4: An educator entrusted with public funds and property honors that trust with honest, responsible stewardship. Resolution: Educator’s license was suspended for five (5) years. Educator was fined $100. This was the second offense.
Allegation: An educator was allegedly kissing, hugging and texting a student at school and at night. The educator also alleged to have proposed marriage to the student. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator’s license was permanently revoked.
Allegation: An educator allegedly charged students a fee to sit in a classroom. Standard Alleged Violated Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Standard #5: An educator maintains integrity regarding acceptance of any gratuity, gifts, compensation or favor that might impair or appear to influence professional decisions or actions and shall refrain from using the educator’s position for personal gain. Resolution: Educator was issued a written reprimand and fined $50.
Allegation: An educator allegedly used a racial slur in reference to a student in front of other educators. Standard Alleged Violated Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator received a written reprimand, a $50 fine, and was ordered to receive diversity/sensitivity training.
Allegation: An educator allegedly filed a false sick leave report. The educator had reportedly been arrested for DUI and was in jail. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #3: An educator honestly fulfills reporting obligations associated with professional practices. Resolution: Educator received a written reprimand and was fined $50.
Allegation: An educator allegedly taped students to chairs in order to make them behave. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Standard #2: An educator maintains competence regarding skills, knowledge, and dispositions relating to his/her organizational position, subject matter, and/or pedagogical practice. Resolution: Educator’s license was suspended for a year and the educator was fined $100.
Allegation: An educator allegedly wrote love letters to a student. Standard Alleged Violated Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator’s license was suspended for five years and the educator was fined $100.
Allegation: An educator allegedly breached security during the End of Course testing. Standard Alleged Violated Standard # 3: An educator honestly fulfills reporting obligations associated with professional practices. Standard # 6: An educator keeps in confidence secure standardized test material as well as information about students and colleagues obtained in the course of professional service unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is allowed or required by law. Resolution: Educator’s license was placed on probation for three (3)years and the educator was fined $100. Plus required training on testing procedures.
Allegation: An educator allegedly did not complete Pathwise Mentoring duties. Standard Alleged Violated Standard #3: An educator honestly fulfills reporting obligations associated with professional practices. Resolution: Educator was issued a written reprimand and fined $50.
Allegation: An educator allegedly used excessive force in paddling a student. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator’s license was placed on probation for three years and fined $75.
Allegation: An educator allegedly was under the influence at school, fell and injured self at a tailgate party. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Standard #7:An educator refrains from using, possessing and/or being under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or unauthorized drugs while on school premises or at school-sponsored activities involving students. Resolution: Educator’s license was placed on probation for two (2) years. Educator was fined $75 and ordered to get counseling.
Allegation: An educator allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior towards a young student, including but not limited to pushing/striking a child on the head and pulling/tugging/stroking a child’s hair after having been directed not to do so on prior occasions by superiors. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator’s license was placed on probation for one (1) year. Educator was fined $75.
Allegation: An educator allegedly left students in a hotel room when on out of town on an athletic trip and went to a bar to have some drinks. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #7: An educator refrains from using, possessing and/or being under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or unauthorized drugs while on school premises or at school-sponsored activities involving students. Resolution: Educator’s license was placed on probation for two (2) years and fined $75.
Allegation: An educator allegedly shoved a student who was attacking another student to make him leave the room. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: During the investigation it was substantiated that the educator did not act inappropriately, the file was closed with no action.
Allegation: An educator allegedly was drinking in the classroom while teaching. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #7: An educator refrains from using, possessing and/or being under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or unauthorized drugs while on school premises or at school-sponsored activities involving students. Resolution: Educator was recommended for counseling and the license was suspended for one (1) year plus a $100 fine.
Allegation: An educator allegedly billed the school district for bus runs which in reality the educator did not make. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #3: An educator honestly fulfills reporting obligations associated with professional practices. Resolution: Educator received a written reprimand. Educator was fined $50.
Allegation: An educator allegedly referred student to Juvenille Court Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Standard #3: An educator honestly fulfills reporting obligations associated with professional practices. Resolution: Educator was acting within the realm of authority; therefore, the file was closed and no investigation was authorized.
Allegation: An educator allegedly took students to parties to expand their homosexual circles, inappropriately texting and shopping with students. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: The educator’s license was placed on probation for three (3) years. Educator was fined $75 and required to attend counseling or rehab with progress monitored.
Allegation: A patron alleged that the educator gave a student a low test score. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: This allegation was not authorized for investigation; therefore, case closed.
Allegation: An educator allegedly berated a colleague in front of several other faculty members (no students were present.) Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #2: An educator maintains competence regarding skills, knowledge, and disposition relating to his/her organizational positions, subject matter, and /or pedagogical practice. Resolution: This was a teacher – teacher issue. Since no students were present, the case was closed and the ethics sub- committee denied permission for this allegation to be investigated.
Allegation: An educator allegedly told a disruptive student that their spouse would “kick their a**.” Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator received a written reprimand and fined $50.
Allegation: An educator allegedly threatened own child and hit the child at school Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #1: An educator maintains a professional relationship with each student, both in and outside the classroom. Resolution: Educator’s license was placed on probation for one (1) year and fined $75. Educator was also required to take anger management classes/counseling and report results to AR state board quarterly.
Allegation: An educator allegedly was running drugs with a Mexican Cartel. Standard Alleged Violated: Standard #7: An educator refrains from using, possessing and/or being under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or unauthorized drugs while on school premises or at school-sponsored activities involving students. Resolution: Educator’s license was permanently revoked. Educator was arrested by the FBI.
Please realize that all of the facts and evidence gathered during the investigation as well as the dialogue which occurred among the members of the Ethics Sub-Committee with the investigators are not presented on these slides.All cases presented are closed. The End
