What About Human Reason? • All religions agree that human reason cannot plumb the depths of the great mystery of God… • God’s ways are not our ways… • His thoughts are not our thoughts (Book of the Prophet Isaiah -- 55:8)
What Is Divine Revelation? • REVELATION: means “unveiling” • God freely chose to step into human history to reveal His plan of salvation through the Hebrew and Christian bibles… • and the INCARNATION. (God taking on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ.) • SALVATION HISTORY: The story of God’s saving activity in human history.
What Is Divine Revelation (continued): • God also reveals Himself in the official teaching of the Church… • which resides in the Pope (the successor of St. Peter) and the bishops. • This is called the MAGISTERIUM (from the Latin word for “teacher.”
