Which type of Soil is Best for a Sports Field? By: Emily Diamond South Seneca High School, Ovid, New York Methods- Figure 1 Introduction Conclusion The objective of this experiment was to determine what type of soil lets water move through it the quickest. My hypothesis is about the sports fields and which type of soil would be best to put one on. If a sports field is on top of a type of soil that lets water drain quickly and easily then it won’t be a sloppy mess after it rains. After performing my experiment I have concluded that sample three which was soil type AnB lets water move through it the quickest therefore it would be the best soil to put a sports field on top of. If South Seneca’s Football field was moved a little towards the Soccer field, most of it would be in the area where there is AnB soil and it would drain more quickly. Sample3 Sample1 Sample2 Hypotheses What type of soil would be best under a sports field? Methods Results Citations Three samples where collected in Ovid. Two hundred ml of each sample were poured into their own tubes. Fifty ml of water was poured into sample one. The time it took for the water to get to the bottom of sample one was determined with a stop watch and the data was recorded in the data table. The process was repeated for samples two and three. The sample that took the least time for the water to get to the bottom was determined and the data was recorded. Sample three was the fastest with a time of 1minute and 32 seconds. Sample one moved slowly but came in second with a time of 10 minutes and 55 seconds. Sample two was timed for 19 minutes but by that time the water had stopped moving it had not reached the bottom.
