Plural • There are only three reasons that an apostrophe makes a word plural • Letters-----I made all A’s and B’s. • Numbers-----I made two 54’s last week. • Single Words----There are 7 I’s in your paper.
Complex Apostrophes • If the two people or things that own something are combined with “and” only one apostrophe is needed • Tom and Jane’s car is green. • If the two people or things that own something are combined with “or” then apostrophes are needed on both • Tom’s or Jane’s car is green.
Reminders • Use an apostrophe to show omissions in a year. • ’99 (1999) ’10 (2010) • Apostrophes only make three things plural • If a word has an apostrophe on it the item that it “owns” must come right behind it • Cat’s ball
