First steps • Complete the properties. • Select File> Properties> Show Document Panel. • Be sure the Author is “NCI CBIIT.” • Enter the title. • Enter the subject. Use the title if you wish. • Enter keywords. The date is useful here. Use the title if you wish. • In the Document Properties, select Advanced Properties. • Click the Custom tab. • Verify that the Language is specified, English. • Close the properties.
Next steps and rules • Add slides: click New Slide and select a layout. • Enter all content in a placeholder. • If you mix text and images, try to avoid making a lot of blank lines. Move the image instead. • Always add alt text: select the image; Format > Size > Alt Text > Enter a description.
Another rule - important • Enter all text in placeholders. • Images can be outside. • If you want text on both sides of an image, use the Two Content layout. • Keep the text in placeholders. • Re-size the placeholders as needed.
More rules (1) • Always use a slide layout. • Avoid deleting placeholders – for content or for the title. • If you need two slides with the same title, put (1) after the first title, (2) after the second and so on.
How to verify all your text is in placeholders • Click the Outline tab in the left sidebar. • Review your text and be sure it is all in the outline. • But what if I need a small label? • Then use a text box. • Put your text in alt text too. A small label
