  2. IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM Reflect on the decision. How did it affect those involved? What did I learn? What could I change for a more effective outcome? Explore the facts. Do not jump to conclusions based on prior situations. Ask questions. Who was involved? Why may the problem have occurred? Think ethically as a role model Consult with colleges for professional advice Follow through with ethical solution. Consider code of ethics, TRB standards, professionalism, respect to those involved. Identify possible solutions. What is the solution that is most beneficial for those involved? Act professionally with the goal of an effective outcome Select the best possible solution that is consistent with my philosophy of teaching and caring for others Make sure the solution is effective and fair to those intentionally and not intentionally involved

  3. Inner Landscape and Relevance My inner landscape has been transformed by my outer landscape. My family, friends, education, travel, and general life experiences have all assisted in my personal development of which makes me the person I am today. I come from a very large, caring, growing family whom is always there for unconditional support. Whenever I need help, I turn to them. My family has taught me the morals and virtues I believe in. I believe in the Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I have been lucky enough to travel to many places around the world and experience new and different cultures apart from my own. These travels have lead me to realize how great diversity is and truly opened my mind to impartiality about others. The world is a place where one should be curious, not judgemental. I hope to teach overseas when I graduate and experience more that the world has to offer. All of these of these inspirations that make up my inner landscape will shape who I am as a teacher. I will care for and respect all of my students and colleagues because of the values I believe in. I will strongly consider other’s feelings when it comes to decision making.

  4. Principles of Ethical Decision Making The Common Good Approach I believe in the Common Good Approach as it focuses on a community sharing the same goal and values. The common goal of teaching is helping students grow academically and socially. Students want to learn and teachers want to help them learn while also learning from their students. The Virtue Approach The strong virtues I hold such as honesty, respect, faithfulness, and determination all contribute to my positive attitude towards teaching. My character traits that fall under the Virtue Approach of ethics will be presented in my teaching. The Utilitarian Approach Every student should feel cared for in their classroom. The Utilitarian approach states that “of any two actions, the most ethical one will produce the greatest balance of benefits or harms”. I agree with this approach as I believe that a decision made should be the one which impact benefits those involved.

  5. British Columbia Teachers Federation Teaching is a profession where one is always in the public eye and must be aware of this. Professionalism is extremely important while in school but also outside of the classroom. The British Columbia Teachers Federation has laid out a code of ethics which teachers must follow. Following these ethics contributes to ones professionalism and must think about these ethics when faced with a tough decision. When I am faced with a serious ethical issue, the BCTF will be there to guide me through it. Teachers Regulation Branch The Teachers Regulation Branch is an important regulation assembly as they provide standards that teachers must follow. Whenever I am faced with a controversial situation, I will look to these standards for guidance. They will ensure that my actions are ethical and honest.

  6. Reconciliations Sometimes I wish classes only contained ten or so students so that It was possible to successfully meet every single need of every single student. I realize this is rarely the case in British Columbia, but I find it so difficult to meet the needs of students when each level of learning is so varied. I am going to try my best to differentiate my lessons so each learner will be able to experience lessons that best meet their intelligences. As I stated in my inner landscape, I love to travel and want to move overseas when I graduate. Although I am very excited for this future opportunity, I realize that I will have to learn a new curriculum and live in a new culture. It is going to be a learning adventure full of good and bad experiences that will all contribute to my life long education.
