Nathaniel Hawthorne started his life on July 4th, 1804. The Puritan was born and brought into the world in the little town of Salem, Massachusetts. His original name was Nathaniel Hathorne he changed it and added the “w”. The reason for adding the “w” because he wanted to avoid his family that was involved with the Salem witch trials. After working in Boston for some time Nathaniel had enough money to money to marry his wife Sophia Peabody. Shortly after being married had three children named Una, Julian, and Rose. His drive to become a writer all started after his father (Nathaniel Hathorne) died at sea of yellow fever. His mother forced him to isolated pursuits which caused him to be shy and bookish. He graduated from Bowdwin College where shortly afterwards he resulted to writing. He wrote many short stories which eventually turned into success short stories. These stories were My Kinsman, Major Molineux, Roger Malvin's Burial, and Young Goodman Brown. He returned his to his home town of Salem in 1845 where he worked in his book The Scarlet Letter, which he described as his “hell-fired-story. This book was a success which gave him the option to write more. He wrote a romance called The House of Seven Gables . Nathaniel fell ill and died on May 19, 1864. shortly after his death his unfinished works were published posthumously.
