Gaps detected for Mother Support & Community Outreach from 2009 assessment Today there are (around) 3000 counselors trained to support breastfeeding mother and baby, yet only few implemented good counseling and listening skills, with limited outreach through out the nations.
Gaps detected for Mother Support Pregnant women have limited access to community-based support systems and services on IYCF Pregnant & breastfeeding women have limited access to support for IYCF, because health facilities (especially medical professions organizations) work closely with special formula for pregnant & breastfeeding mothers owned by formula company whom claiming they support breastfeeding IYCF support services (e.gPuskesmas, Posyandu) have national coverage, yet still lack of support (such as capacity from human resources)
(Cont..) Gaps The community-based support services have not spread and known widely to implement IYCF program for pregnant and breastfeeding woman Only few Community-based volunteers and health workers have possessed correct information on IYCF Have not reached all/wider community stages, because lack of resources (e.g: funding, human resources, capacity and tools) Rarely hospitals do the 10th steps where they have to work together with mother support group
Recommendations for Mother Support & Community Outreach Training breastfeeding motivator – a voluntary peer from community itself (local understanding and language), therefore peer-counseling and mother support group would sustain.
