  3. A Brief History • ZPC has: • Been blessed to be a blessing • Had consistent growth in attendance and giving for 22 years • No growth in attendance and giving in last four years • Struggled to make budget last 3 years

  4. A Brief History • The session responded by: • Asking each ministry area to reduce expenses by at least 15% • Reduced staff • Partnering with Alston-Kline in Sept. 2008

  6. Hindsight Provides Clarity • The Reveal survey shows that spiritual growth lagged significantly behind our growth in numbers • ZPC lacked effective organizational structure and processes • We outgrew our capacity to make disciples

  8. Hindsight Provides Clarity • Alston-Kline: • Much work to do to build the necessary infrastructure and processes, but we now know what we lack • Leveraged extensive leadership network to identify experienced candidates for Executive Director

  9. A Brief History • Session: • Continues to discuss recommendations • Has adopted personnel changes (detailed in letter) • Made decisions that will bring immediate impact, others are long term

  10. Key Findings • ZPC is a unique church, founded on the absolute assurance that Jesus Christ is the foundation • The intent of ZPC has always been to raise up disciples who could go and serve in our world

  11. Key Findings • Our church’s mission is sound! • Called together by God to make disciples and release them for service in our broken world.

  12. Key Findings • Instill Biblical teaching in everything • Incorporate prayer to everything • Integrate ministry teams • Focus on adult education • Integrate church infrastructure • Easier, more structured ways for volunteers to get connected

  13. Key Findings • Specific measurements for success • Improved evaluation for: • Ministries • Staff • Session • Raise up lay leaders to to fill gaps, instead of hiring staff

  14. Key Findings • With ZPC’s finances: • Always on the edge • No cash reserves • Have to utilize a line of credit during downturns

  15. Key Findings • To be lay-led we need to: • Follow through better • Develop mature Disciples who have A Heart for Christ alone • Walk alongside servant-leaders

  21. Financial FYI • Current Line of Credit borrowing = $110,000 • Since 8/2/09, avg. attendance drop = 159 (vs. same period last year) • Building mortgage = $1,188,000, House mortgage = $262,398
