What is the “Points” System? • Professional Development & Compensation System • Concept and Philosophy: Pay should be associated with growth as a professional, not solely through years of experience in a system. • The “Points” system measures growth through a combination of Experience AND Professional Development. • When you were hired, you were placed on the salary schedule and granted an associated number of points. Range from 0 – XXXX. • The Salary Schedule may be found in the Teacher Guidelines on page 48.
Value of Points • Each Point is worth $3.00. • One full step movement is worth $1,500 and requires 500 points. • When the Board cannot afford full step movement in a given year, incremental steps (A, B, C, and D) will be assigned worth $300 each requiring 300 points per increment.
Value of Points • A teacher can only move one step in a given year. • Exception, if a teacher earns their Master’s Degree or National Board Certification – can move two steps in one year. • The Board has the right to go beyond a full step, pending budget availability. This is a new option for the Board, and has not been applied, yet.
Eligibility for Step Movement • 500 Points is necessary to qualify for step movement. • The 500 points need to be earned in the given year, or banked from previous years, or a combination of the two.
Accumulation of Points—0-5 year Educators • Educators who have taught 0-5 years will earn 400 experience points per year. • Non-Credit Professional Development Programs – 4 points per hour. • College Credit – 60 points per credit. • Points are only granted during non-contract time.
Accumulation of Points—Greater than 5 year Educator • Educators with 5+ years of teaching will earn 200 experience points per year. • Non-Credit Professional Development Programs – 8 points per hour. • College Credit – 120 points per credit. • Points are only granted during non-contract time.
