Our Role “promote safety and quality in the provision of health, and personal social services for the benefit of the health and welfare of the public” (Section 7 of the Health Act 2007 (as amended)) • Setting standards • Monitoring compliance with standards and regulations • Registration and inspection • Advising on the collection and sharing of information • Evaluating clinical/cost effectiveness of health technologies • Providing advice to the Ministers and HSE • Investigating serious concerns
Process to Child Protection Commencement 1. Standards Advisory Group 2. Public consultation (Dec 2011) 4. Submit final draft Standards to HIQA Board (Jan 2012). 5. Seek Ministerial mandate first quarter 2012. 6. Inform Services 7. Begin Monitoring

Scope of Draft National Standards • To monitor the HSE’s performance of its functions under section 3 of the Child Care Act, 1991 • To monitor the implementation of Children First in HSE Children and Family Services • To support, promote and inform continuous improvement in child protection and welfare in HSE Children and Family Services
