  2. What is CUAbroad ? The education abroad office of the Center for Global Education (CGE) at the Catholic University of America We support CGE’s efforts to advance the international character of the University Develop, support and promote, and support a wide range of education abroad options for the CUA community

  3. What does CUAbroad do? Develop and administer education abroad programs Coordinate efforts with CUA academic and administrative units and institutions in the US and abroad Serve our students, faculty and the CUA community

Services We Provide Educational abroad advising (group, individual, and walk-in) Education Abroad 101: Getting Started (informational sessions on Mon, Tue, Wed) Evaluate overseas courses for CUA equivalencies Pre-departure (general and program-specific) Re-entry workshops Life After Study Abroad Conference Global Student Ambassadors Ask a Student web profiles

  5. Additional Services International resource library and travel information Visa application assistance International Student and Teacher Identity Cards (ISIC & ITIC) International health & emergency evacuation Insurance (FrontierMEDEX) Foreign transcript evaluation upon return And much more…

  6. Why Study or Intern Abroad? Academic credit toward degree Learn or perfect foreign language skills Gain experience in a career field (internships) Strengthen the resume Travel and meet new people Gain intercultural skills & competence Broaden one’s perspective View US from a more global perspective

CUA in Rome: Flagship Program Fall or spring semesters No prior knowledge of Italian required Courses taught in English & Italian Liberal Arts or Italian Immersion tracks Full-time on-site CUA resident director & residence staff Student residence or host family (for advanced language students) Facilities: library, computer lab, lounge Excursions to Tuscany and the Bay of Naples, buffalo mozzarella farm, etc.

CUA Oxford Program –Flagship Program Fall or spring semesters & summer 3.5 G.P.A. for U Grads, 3.8 for Grads) A wide range of subjects Take 3 tutorials for 15 undergrad credits (9 for graduates) Lots of reading, researching and writing when not meeting with tutors Affiliation with Oxford college Oxford student housing (single rooms, shared kitchen, lounge & bathroom) Extracurricular activities, clubs, etc.

  9. International Internships Gain practical experience Earn course credits Enhance the resume and career prospects LOCATIONS: BELGIUM: Brussels/Leuven UK: London, England IRELAND: Dublin Additional options to teach, work and volunteer abroad

  10. Semester Abroad: An Overview Open to all majors Programs on five continents Non-traditional destinations 15-16 credits (9 for graduate students) Instruction in English, host country’s language or both Wide range of subjects taught Fulfill requirements in major, minor, distribution, electives

  12. Short-term Programs CUA faculty-led programs Direct-enrollment programs Spring break or summer One to six weeks in length 1, 3, 6 or 9 credits Host families or student housing Open to undergraduates & graduates Must have 2.5 min. G.P.A. Austria, Belize, Italy, etc. Perfect for any major

Non-CUA Program Options Not affiliated with CUA (but are accredited) Offered by other institutions & organizations CUAbroad reviews and grants approvals Application & course approval process is similar CUA grants and scholarships do not apply Must take courses for graded credit C- or better must be earned for credit to transfer Receive transfer credit

  14. Financing Education Abroad Studying Abroad is quite affordable! CUA PROGRAMS & AFFILIATED PROGRAMS CUA students pay tuition plus a program fee (generally $5,000) Includes instruction, housing, pre-departure and on-site orientation, excursions, and meals (if offered) Also includes international health & emergency evacuation insurance Visa, round-trip airfare and personal expenses not included No CUA campus housing and meal plan charged while abroad Cost breakdown sheets provided (shared with Financial Aid) CUA grants & scholarships, federal & state aid are ALL available for affiliated programs Autumn Advantage Scholarship ($1,000 off program fee) Oxford & Rome scholarships IES, Fordham, Gilman, Boren, Fulbright, and other scholarships

  15. Eligibility Requirements Semester Programs Completed 45 credits at college level Full-time student seeking a degree-seeking Min. G.P.A.: 2.8 (Most programs: 3.0, Oxford Honors program is 3.5) Summer Programs Spring break of freshmen year or anytime after that Min. G.P.A.: 2.5 and above

Getting Started: It is Never too Early Visit the CUAbroad office & web site Attend an Education Abroad 101 Info Session Research program options, check out courses Talk with former participants Discuss plans with faculty advisor and parents! Get approval for proposed courses Apply early (Deadlines: March 1 and October 1) HOW TO APPLY: Online Application, Statement of Purpose, Transcript, Letter of Recommendation, Course Approval, Resume (for internships), Copy of Passport, Photos, etc.
