‘Jonny’ Alex, James, Madelin, Sunil & Tom
Intro • We a planning to shoot a short comedic film, based upon communication problems faced between parent and child. We want to shoot on a minimal budget getting our locations, actors & props for nothing.
Outline • ‘Jonny’ is a 3 minute film, where two ‘supposed’ parents are talking at the camera expressing their concerns to the person (the audience being this person – POV shot) about them moving away and being safe with sex and be careful in their new home. With a comic reveal at the end. The audience will assume that the person they are talking to must be a teenage son moving away, maybe to university how ever it is actually the mans elderly father moving into a nursing him, who is in shock as to the talk he has been given.
Characters: • Lee Ferring – A 41 year old, graying tall man. Who has a dry sense of humour, and a particularly dull but well paid office job at the mint office. • He is a loud well spoken man that laughs at his own jokes but has the tendency to slip in made up words to describe sex and taboo behavior which he picked up from school as a teenager. • He is married to Anne Ferring and has been for 16 years. They have two children which are not named but from the house it is obvious children reside in the house.
Characters: • Anne Ferring – A 39 year old stay at home mum/house wife. She looks well for her age with constant smile on her face even when angry (seems more intimidating) She is very well spoken and is always too interested in other peoples lives. • Her and Lee have an obvious flamboyant sex life which they let slip when having the ‘talk’ with the subject. • They also have a friendly relationship and enjoy each others banter, which no one else seems to understand.
Characters: • ‘Harvey Ferring’ Is an 89 year old widower. He is obviously very old, hard of hearing and sight. Almost like a walking prune. (one of those granddads you want to take home) • He is at the age where the family now want to put him in a home. Which is the twist later on.
Location: • A middle class home with a long hall and a big kitchen. • The kitchen must have a table or island in the middle of the room so that we can light it well and give the almost ambient interrogation look with a single bright light. • “possible areas in Birmingham”
Costs • Transportation – Train to Birmingham £15 • Possible cost of car - £15 • Actors – Hopefully free, if not. Very cheap. • Food - £25
Props • Box of Condoms • Walking stick • Nursing home leaflet • Toys for background of set
Equipment • Plan to shoot of JVC/550D/5D (If possible) • Shoulder mount • Track • Dolly • Tripod • Dedo, Kino’s (if possible), Overhanging lamp • Boom, Rifle mic, marantz, 5 XLRs • SD Cards
Logistics/Feesability • We predict it will be a 1/2 day shoot, as only 1 location. • Transport will simple, either train into Birmingham or James will be driving. • Location is secure • The only actor that may be difficult to cast for is the older man.
Group Roles • Scriptwriter – Alex Holland • Director(s) – Alex Holland & James Dove • Producer – Madelin Flores-Solorzano • Cinematographer/DOP/Camera Op – Madelin Flores-Solorzano • Sound – Tom Hill • Lighting & Production Manager – Sunil Singh
