Traffic Class Control in MBSS Authors: Date: 2009-07 Russ Housley (Vigil Security), et. al.
Abstract This submission proposes: • Add a comment on Draft 3.02 to address the missing function of controlling traffic classes in MBSS Meiyuan Zhao (Intel Corporation)
Background • Security sub-group examined “RSN capabilities” field in RSN element during comment resolution discussion • PTKSA Replay Counter and GTKSA Replay Counter are used to define the number of replay counters used for protect unicast and broadcast/multicast data traffic • The value is determined by the number of traffic classes supported by BSS • The number of traffic classes is dictated by AP in BSS • MBSS should address the traffic class problem as well • Solution options • Mesh-wide configuration • Negotiated in pairwise basis
Motion • Add the comment on traffic class control to comment spreadsheet 11-09/471r10: • Comment: mesh needs to figure out how to deal with traffic classes. Each needs a replay counter for protection. In infrastructure mode, it's dictated by AP. But in mesh, either need to define it as mesh-wide configuration, or let mesh STAs to negotiate in pairwise basis. • Recommended change: The former makes more sense. Need submission to implement the former approach.
