SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING Solid Waste Program Summary • Purpose: • Increase solid waste diversion, program’s economic benefit, and minimize waste generation. • Major Program Components: • Operate a landfill specifically for construction and demolition debris. • Recycle and track waste diversion amounts, and economic benefit from reduced tipping fees. SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING Trash Collection • All trash collected on post is taken to the Fairbanks North Star Borough for disposal. • Dumpster collection and maintenance is conducted by Shaw Group. • Waste Management (WM) collects garbage in housing areas. SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING Special Waste Disposal • Current on-post landfill only accepts construction and demolition debris and asbestos. • Pallets, tires, furniture, fans, etc. should be disposed of through DLA Disposition Services– NOT taken to the landfill. SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLING Recycling • There is currently a recycling program on post for Aluminum, Tin, Glass, Mixed Paper, and Plastic. • Marked containers are located behind the AAFES furniture store. • Other industrial recyclables such as used oil and batteries can be processed through DLA Disposition Services directly or given to ECC for handling.
