  1. Building an Electronic Application Kim Peacock

  2. Why Districts Are Doing It • The challenge of distance to most school districts means it is often challenging for administrators to visit central office. • A database of applications at a central location allows remote viewing from a distance. • Electronic applications save physical space. • Applications are always available (i.e. a principal or HR person can’t take it home so that it is unavailable to someone else).

  3. Some Examples of Districts Using Electronic Applications • Buffalo Trail Public Schools • Clearview SD No. 71 • Evergreen Catholic Separate Regional Division # 2 • Foothills SD No. 38 • Grande Yellowhead RD No. 35 • Grande Prairie Public No 2357 • Greater St Albert Catholic Schools • Northern Gateway Regional Division No. 10 • Parkland School Division No. 70 • Pembina Hills Regional School Division No. 7 • Red Deer Catholic Regional Division No. 39 • St. Albert Protestant Schools • St. Paul Education Regional Division No. 1 • St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Schools • Sturgeon School Division No. 24 • Westwind School Division No. 74 • Note, this list is not extensive • Many of these districts won’t accept paper applications anymore.

  4. Which Districts Are NOT Doing It • Edmonton Public • Edmonton Catholic • Calgary Board of Education • Calgary Catholic • Red Deer Public Schools • Elk Island Public Schools • This makes sense in light of the fact that it is still easy for most teachers to access central office at these districts.

  5. The Big Sites • District Office Online and Education Canada are the two big job sites for teachers in Canada. • Education Canada is nation wide. • District Office Online is Alberta based. • Even by visiting both of these sites, you are still not covering all of the districts in the province. Some districts do not post positions at all (i.e. Edmonton Public), while others only do it on their district web site (i.e. Elk Island Public Schools).

  6. In the ATEP Area… • District Office Online • http://www.stpauleducation.ab.ca/employ.html • http://www.btps.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=39 • Education Canada • http://www.nlsd.ab.ca/jobs.php

  7. In the ATEP Area… • Paper or Email • http://www.aspenview.org/ • http://ecacs16.ab.ca/news_employ.htm • http://www.elkislandcatholic.com/htm/main.cfm?content=1252 • http://www.eips.ca/job_information.php?id=9232

  8. Education Canada • http://www.educationcanada.com • Canada wide. • Allows you to browse jobs and post a resume and cover letter (does not allow you to send more than that to a district). • More listings than District Office Online. • More applicants are seeing it than on District Office Online.

  9. District Office Online • http://www.districtofficeonline.com • Alberta wide • Smaller pool of people seeing the job postings. • Allows you to post a resume, cover letter, references, transcripts, teaching certificate and more. • Allows you to apply directly to the “member” districts.

  10. Standard Documents to Upload • You must set up an account first. This is a very easy step-by-step process. • Standard documents include: • Resume • Cover Letter • Teaching Certificates • Teaching Evaluations • Reference Letters • Pastoral Letter • Transcripts

  11. Scanning • Scanning Documents in the 155 A and B Labs:http://www.ualberta.ca/~edtechpd/documents/tutorial_scanner_scanningdocsineds155_peacock_v1.pdf • Inserting Images into Microsoft Word:http://www.ualberta.ca/~edtechpd/documents/tutorial_scanner_scanningintomswordineds115_peacock_v1.pdf

  12. Uploading Files to District Office Online • Select “Teachers” from the main menu and log on to District Office Online. • Click on “Upload Documents”. • Click on the item you wish to upload. • Browse to find it on your computer. • Click “Upload”.
