  4. Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Paro Taktsang, commonly known as Tiger's Nest, is a prominent and iconic Buddhist monastery located in the Paro Valley of Bhutan. This sacred site is perched dramatically on the side of a cliff, around 900 meters (2,950 feet) above the valley floor, making it one of Bhutan's most famous and breathtaking landmarks. The legend behind Paro Taktsang dates back to the 8th century when Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, the revered Indian saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, is said to have flown to this location on the back of a tigress in the form of Guru Dorje Drolo. He meditated in a cave here for three years, three months, three weeks, three days, and three hours, consecrating the site and blessing the land. Thus, the monastery was built around the cave, and it has become a place of pilgrimage and spiritual significance for Buddhists.

The chortens are beautifully designed and are an important cultural and religious symbol in Bhutan. Majestic Himalayan Views: On a clear day, the view from Dochula Pass is simply breathtaking.
