Every website must have a domain name. • Your domain name must be registered with a domain registrar and a fee is charged for this service. • Each year it must be renewed or you will lose the use of it. • The domain name becomes your property as long as you renew it each year. • It is very important to choose a good domain name for your website. • It should be short so people can remember it and so it is easy to type into a web browser. Choose a Domain Name • It should also be relevant to your business.
The most common operating systems being Unix or Windows. • Most simple html pages can be hosted on either one. • If you plan to use .asp pages in your site you will need a Windows server. • If you plan on using a shopping cart you need to find out the requirements. • Most simple website's need less that 200 MB of storage space and use much less than a Gigabyte of bandwidth (traffic). • Shopping carts, personal sites, and photo gallery's may need more storage or bandwidth.
