PALS AT BRIGHTON & SUSSEX UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST • 1992 – Patients’ Advocate Pilot began at Royal Sussex County Hospital (& Frenchay Hospital, Bristol) • 1994 – Permanent Patients’ Advocate Recruited into Post at RSCH • 2000 – NHS Plan calls for introduction of Patient Advice & Liaison Service throughout all NHS Trusts

  3. PALS AT BRIGHTON & SUSSEX UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST • 2002 – Current Patients’ Advocate took up Post • 2003 – BSUH PALS Launched • 2004 – ‘City-Wide’ PALS Launched

PALS AT BRIGHTON & SUSSEX UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST BSUH Sites Comprise: • The Royal Sussex County Hospital • The Princess Royal Hospital • The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children • Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre • The Sussex Eye Hospital • Some Wards/Services at Brighton General Hospital & Hove Polyclinic

Information Kiosk located in Main Entrance of Princess Royal Hospital Open to all visitors during PALS operating hours Wide range of printed literature available covering local & national health-related topics Limited range of information available on tape (audio & video) Supervised Internet access available for health information Public access kiosk not installed due to lack of suitable location Literature stocks held in PALS office in Sussex House Range of printed literature provided on request Very limited information available on tape PALS staff search for information on internet by request BSUHT PALS INFORMATION PROVISION
