Vayikra/Leviticus 23:1-3 The LORD spoke again to Moses, saying, Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, The LORD'S appointed times which you shall proclaim as holy convocations - My appointed times are these: For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a Sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work; it is a Sabbath to the LORD in all your dwellings.

  5. Sabbath – The First Festival • The Sabbath is a gift that God gave to people. • God does not just want us to work, but to take a day off and rest as well. • That is what God did when he created the world.

  6. God Creates the World • After God created the world in six days, he rested on the Sabbath. • God blessed it and made it a special day as well.

  10. David Eating Consecrated Bread • David asks for five loaves of bread for his journey, and the priest gives him the special consecrated bread. • Only the priests could eat the bread. • Yeshua said “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” • Yeshua told the Pharisees that He was Lord of the Sabbath.

  11. The Man with the Shriveled Hand • Yeshua enters a synagogue • There is a man whose right hand is shriveled. • Yeshua told the man, to get up and stand in front of everyone. Ancient Synagogue in Safed, Israel

  12. Saving Life and Doing Good • Yeshua asks, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” • Yeshua says to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” • As the man does so it is completely restored to normal.

  13. Lessons for Disciples • What does Yeshua intend you to learn from it? • First, to observe the Sabbath. • Second, that the Law is not to make life harder for man, but to help man. • Yeshua loves people, always wanting to meet their needs and help them.

  14. Ways to Make the Sabbath Special • First, RELAX, enjoy the day and try smiling! • You can eat some special food • Remember that the Sabbath is a day "set apart" just like followers of Yeshua. • Do things differently on the Sabbath, in a more thankful way.
