Objectives • Increase student achievement by strengthening decoding skills, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension • Teach the Arizona State Reading Standards
Reading Placement • 7th Grade students are placed according to different types of data. This data includes: 5th and 6th grade AIMS scores, 6th grade Acuity and DRP scores, and 6th grade teacher recommendations. • 8th Grade students are placed according to their seventh grade AIMS scores.
What is Reading and Linguistics? • Reading and Linguistics is a two semester course designed to increase reading skills of students who are not at a proficient reading level • The main curriculum focus is Language! – a district adopted program intended to strengthen specific reading skills. • The course is supplemented with additional material.

Independent Reading • Students will ALWAYS be responsible for reading at least 100 pages per school week. • Minutes must be recorded on the reading log in the planner. • Parent signature is required weekly to verify minutes read.
Expectations • Punctuality – on time • Material – specifics vary by teacher but students are always responsible for planner, writing utensils, and paper • Fremont Planner – must be filled out daily, and grades will be given weekly • Following Discipline Guidelines – respect and responsibility
