  1. New Unit: Transitions • Look at textbook page 72. This page is full of pictures of transitions. • Based on these pictures write a definition of the word transitions. • Describe the transitions you see on page 72. • Compare one of the transitions on page 72 to a transition you have experienced. • What is a transition you are looking forward to in the future. Explain why you are looking forward to the transition.

  2. Proverbs: Short sayings that give advice about life. • “Don’t think there are no crocodiles because the water is calm.” Malayan proverb (Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia. Malaysia has beaches on both sides of it.) • What does this proverb mean? Explain it. • Describe a time when you thought things were going well and then all of a sudden some negative or crazy events happened. • According to this proverb if your life is calm, should you relax? • Do you agree or disagree with this proverb. • Draw a picture to illustrate this proverb.

  3. Support and deduce • Read the following sentences. Use the context to deduce what the underlined words mean. Then write a definition for each word. • The scientist looked for information to supporthis opinion in order to convince the others. • Write a definition for the word support: • The scientist tries to deduce a result using information she learn while doing an experiment. • Write a definition for the word deduce. • Write two sentences using the words support and deduce. • Draw two pictures that illustrate the words support and deduce.
