  2. What is Strategic Reading • Strategic Reading is a class where you will work to increase your reading level through whole group, small group, and individualized practice. • In this class you will rotate through centers. Your three centers are small group with the teacher, silent reading, and the Read 180 computer program.

  3. Why am I in Read 180 • You are in Read 180 to become a better reader. Everyone can become a better reader through practice! In this class we will practice, practice, practice!!!! • You were placed in this class if you got a 3 or 4 on the Meap and/or did not meet the exit critera if you were in the program before.

  4. What do I do on the computer? • When you get on the Read 180 software you will have a chance to visit three different zones. They are the Word Zone, Spelling Zone and Reading Zone. • Once you have passed all of these zones you will go to the Success Zone!

  5. How do I exit Read 180 • You can only exit Read 180 at the end of each trimester if you are able to test out. We will take the SRI test near the end of each trimester and that will be your opportunity to show that you have made enough growth to test out.

  6. What do I need to test out? • You need to… • Meet the grade level requirement for your lexile score • Have a C or higher in Read 180 • Have a C or higher in 3 or more of your core classes (math, english, science, and social studies) • Earn 70% or higher in each of the zones on the computer.

  7. What lexile score do I need? • If you are in the 6th grade you need an 800 • If you are in the 7th grade you need an 850 • If you are in the 8th grade you need a 900

  8. What is the SRI? • SRI stands for Scholastic Reading Inventory • It is a test you take on the computer to show what your lexile level (or reading level) is.

  9. How do I take it? • When you take the SRI you will have different reading passages (or short stories) that you will read and then answer questions about. • Remember… you can only take the SRI at the beginning of the year and at the end of each trimester.
