Preservation study: UVC • Raymond Lorie, IBM Almaden USA • Save the image / page by page • Save the textual information • presentation elements • the information about fields • the bookmarks with their text, structure, etc. • A program on a UVC • extracts the data elements from the original bit stream • returns them as the logical view (tag + value)
Present situation • 1 October 2002: delivery & acceptance of deposit system • 12 December: Official opening of deposit system and presentation of 6 LTP research reports by IBM/KB • 13 december: International Workshop on Digital Preservation, KB, The Hague
What’s next? • Development of the preservation functionality • MOU with IBM for further research & development (step by step): • First version of subsystem for preservation • Operational UVC support for PDF • EOI FP6 • FP6 Project proposal ? • Knowledge transfer to new staff
