  1. 1) Anger that comes from materialism “You desire but do not have, so you kill.” James 4:2a ID the Conflict Roots

  2.   “’You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, “You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.”  But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment.’”  Matthew 5:21-22a

  3. 2) Envy “You covet but you cannot get what you want...”  James 4:2b ID the Conflict Roots

  4. 3) Argumentative spirit “…so you quarrel and fight.” James 4:2c ID the Conflict Roots

  5. “I have often wondered that persons who make boast of professing the Christian religion – namely love, joy, peace, temperance, and charity to all men – should quarrel with such rancorous animosity,

  6. and display daily towards one another such bitter hatred, that this, rather than the virtues that they profess, is the readiest criteria of their faith.”

  7. 4) Lack of prayer “You do not have because you do not ask God.” James 4:2d ID the Conflict Roots

  8. 5) Selfish praying “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:3 ID the Conflict Roots

  9. 1) Through faithful devotion to God. How Can I Minimize and Resolve Conflict?

  10. “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?  Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

  11. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?” James 4:4-5

  12. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,

  13. and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5:25-27

  14. God is jealous for our devotion in a healthy way. “Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”  Exodus 34:14

  15. 2) Receive and give grace.  “But he gives us more grace.” James 4:6a How Can I Minimize and Resolve Conflict?

  16. “I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Corinthians 1:4

  17. 3) Humble yourself. “That is why the Scripture says, ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’” (v.6b) How Can I Minimize and Resolve Conflict?

  18. SEEK PLEASURE FROM GOD!  “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”  Psalm 16:11

  19. Be teachable!  God, what needs to change in me?
