Iglide • All Polymer Bearings • USP’s • Competition • New products
We are a “Plain Bearing” • Basically this means that we do not use rolling technology like • ball bearings. • Instead of rolling we are sliding (friction bearings) • Often times referred to as “Bushings”
What benefit can innovation in polymers have for plain bearings? Thermoplasic polymer + Reinforcing compounds + Solid lubricants = iglide® • Universal and custom solutions • Advantages of Polymers are enhanced • Disadvantages of Polymers minimized or eliminated !
Unique Selling Points * Maintenance-Free • No lube (messy, bad around food, attracts dirt, dust, etc.) • Lifetime Calculation/Online Calculator • Light - Quiet • Vibration Dampening • Good in Abrasive Environments • Good Chemical Resistance • Quiet Operation • Higher Static Load than Bronze/Steel plain bearings
Sintered Bronze (Oilite) • Oil-impregnated bearings • Most common in US • Best for high RPM applications • In most apps they are not used correctly • Need maintenance/oil What about Bronze?
Sintered-Bronze (Oilite) • Iglide Advantages: • Better for linear (no oil) • Better for pivoting/oscillating • Better for lower speeds • No lube in dirty environments, food applications, etc. Mention Iglide “R” and “M250” as they are dimensionally interchangeable
DU Bushing (Garlock) • Metal-backed Teflon liner • Very common in Europe • Dimensionally similar to Iglide thin-walled parts
DU Bushing (Garlock) • IGUS Benefits: • Lower Cost • Better in bad environments (think about scratching a Teflon pan) • DU has thin liner-if gone you get metal-to-metal contact = bad. When you see these applications we often recommend our G300 material
The 6 Rules of Iglide: • Check application surface pressure, speed, and temperature • Max Pressure x Velocity (P*V value) = 28,571 continuously lube-free • Ideal App is low speed <60FPM, with loads up to 14,500PSI (rotating/pivoting) • Use hardened shafts if PSI >725 • Total travel <6000 miles • Clearance of .02”-.04” is acceptable
Extreme Iglide Products • iglide® Z/T500 • For extreme loads 21,000PSI + • For high temperatures • Permanent application temperature 550F • Excellent chemical resistance
The DryLin Family DryLin R for Round- shafts DryLin HTS Linear Slide Table DryLin W Mounted Systems DryLin T Profile Rail Systems DryLin N- Low Profile Systems
USP’s- DryLin • Maintenance-free • Self-Lubricating • Good in dirty, nasty environments • Lower cost • Innovative Designs • Flexible • Low-Profile • Quiet We have the very unique capability to calculate lifetime and wear!
Competition: Ball Bearings • Names: THK-Thompson-Hiwinn-IKO-INA-Star-Rextroth • aka. Ball bushings, ball slides, recirculating • ball bearings • Disadvantages: • 1. Not suitable for abrasive/harsh environments • (dirt, chemicals, water, washdown, metal shavings) • 2. Not good with high static loads • 3. Often over engineered for many • applications= Very $$$ • Loud • Must use special, hardened, expensive shafts Tribocological Benefits
Competition- plain bearings Main US competitor is Pacific Bearing Disadvantages: • No lifetime calculations • Mostly sold through Distributor • More expensive • Bad in harsh environments • CANNOT REPLACE LINERS
DryLin® - 2 : 1 RuleThe Principle: < 2 Fdrive floating bearing fixed bearing The driving force must not be further away from the fixed bearings than twice the distance between the bearings 1 See catalogue page 26.13
Drylin Applications • Coach Luggage Slide • Labeling Machine • ZLW Linear Actuator • Box Turner
