EXPERIMENTAL & NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF STATIONARY CASCADE RIG Background Diffuser Velocity fields in centrifugal compressors have been mostly analyzed using CFD. However, an experimental study is needed to validate the results from the CFD model. Stationary Cascade Rig Air Flow Impeller Objective Experimentally investigate the flow field with the use of LDV to validate CFD results. Numerically simulate particle tracking to optimize seeding for LDV experiments. Impeller ‘hub’ side optical access
Research Carried Out A facility has been designed to validate the use of LDV and to show that optical access and seeding into such a highly confined region is possible. CFD simulations show that particle dispersion is sufficient for LDV measurements. Mach number plot of impeller-diffuser Expected Outcomes Validation of the LDV technique in highly-confined complex regions. Validation of CFD results of flow field and particle tracking to aid in optimizing seeding for future optical measurements. CFD results of seeding particles upstream
