  1. How White Are Your Teeth? A comparison of toothpastes and other whitening agents By Harrison Moore

  2. 16Tiles • 16 Toothbrushes • 7 Toothpastes/other whitening agents • Instant coffee • Masking tape • 1 sharpie • 1 big Tupperware container Materials

  3. Using tiles as a substitute for teeth, I will test which toothpaste/whitening agent will be most effective. Question

  4. I think that Crest 3D White will be the brightest because on the tube it says removes up to 90% of surface stains in 5 days. Hypothesis

  5. I made instant coffee and let it cool for 3 hours. • As the coffee was cooling I placed 6 tiles in the Tupperware container. • Then I poured the coffee onto the unfinished side of the tiles and let it sit for 24 hours. • I then took the tiles out of the container and let them sit for another 24 hours, to let them dry and stain. Procedure

  6. As the tiles were drying,I took the masking tape, and using the sharpie, I labeled a piece of tape with the name of the whitening agent that I was going to use to clean each tile. • I then stuck a labeled piece oftape to the finished side of eachtile. • I then also labeled the toothbrushes with the sharpie so that both the tiles and corresponding toothbrushes were well labeled. Procedure

  7. Then I put a drop of the designated whitening agentfor the specific tile on to the designated toothbrush and scrubbed all over the tilefor a timed 2 minutes. • I repeated this for all the tiles. 1 tile I left dirty. 1 tile I used only water on. And 1 other tile I used all of the whitening agents on different sections of the tile. • I repeated the procedure for the next two days. Procedure

  8. So far Luster White and Colgate Optic white are the 2 agents that make the tiles the cleanest. Observations
