Company Perspective • Universal recommendation will be positive step in expanding influenza immunization rates • But will not be a panacea • Success of recommendation implementation is dependent on public-private partnership • Industry, government, healthcare community • Manufacturers are investing in expanding capacity • Anticipate stepped approach to universal recommendation implementation with gradual supply increase • To further increase vaccine development: • Important to recognize value of vaccines to ensure ROI • Increase stability of influenza vaccine market • Reduce manufacturer liability exposure by strengthening VICP

  3. Company Perspective • Government must recognize that demand will drive supply • Unused vaccine won’t stimulate production • Healthcare community must be more engaged • Must do better job of getting immunized • Must improve communicating importance to patients

Investment in Influenza Immunization • Sanofi pasteur currently will produce approximately 60 million doses of vaccine this year • Company produced ~58 million doses in 2004-2005 • Company has invested in $150 million, 145,000 square foot addition at its U.S. headquarters in Swiftwater, Pa. • Will double U.S. capacity for influenza vaccine to ~100 million doses per year • Expected to be approved for 2009-2010 influenza season

Summary • Sanofi pasteur is strong supporter of universal recommendation • Important to recognize industry is only part of the solution and entire vaccine enterprise needs to play role • Commitment and action from US government and healthcare community is essential for success of recommendation as well as industry stability
