Clearinghouse Services • Q1: What type of services do you provide? • OCIO • NebraskaMAP - Metadata Portal • Beginning Business Plan for Additional Services • Special Projects – Legislative Research • DNR • DNR Spatial/GIS Databases Data Bank • Distributes data via Web, FTP and GIS REST services both cached and dynamic. • Imagery used by DNR not available through USDA-NRCS Geospatial Data Gateway is archived at DNR. • Application development is done for in-house uses like tool-bars.
Funding Q2: How are those services funded? OCIOApplication Development - Hourly Rate Hosting - $/Gig Working on service fee options for NebraskaMAP for state agencies GrantsDNR An agency budget but nothing labeled GIS. DNR’s Floodplain division does get FEMA support which indirectly helps GIS.
Challenges Q3: What is your greatest Clearinghouse challenge at this time? OCIO NebraskaMAP Funding Agency Buy-In DNR Integration and coordination of NebraskaMAP and GIS Council efforts with GIS intense agencies like DNR and Dept. of Roads NESDI GeoData
Backup architecture • Q4: What is your backup architecture – does it include written policies? • OCIO • Replication and backup protocols in place • Enhancing SAN and data center • Evaluating Cloud storage for non-critical data • DNR • Starting the process of reorganizing backups • Result in more written policies and procedures, fewer elements or parts, more automation and less reliance on tape

Please list positions title and full or part time status. • OCIO • Nathan Watermeier, State GIS Coordinator, Full • Jim Buehler, Sr. Application Developer (hourly contracts) • DNR - No one has a position that is 100% GIS • Other agencies have staff working on various GIS related projects • The state does not have “GIS” position titles in the State personnel system
Archive Policy Q8: Has your state developed a record retention/archival policy for geospatial data? OCIO Not at this time, but planning this step
Technology: GIS Server Q9: Which of the following GIS Server software are utilized by your organization? (ArcIMS, ArcGIS Server, AGS Image Extension, Map Server, Other?) OCIO ArcGIS Server 10ArcGIS Server Image Extension DNR ArcGIS Server 10. All ArcIMS maps have been replaced.
Technology: GIS Server Q10: If your organization is running ArcGIS Server, have you upgraded to version 10.1? Yes, No, Issues encountered? OCIO Not yet, planning to install update in coming months on “development” server DNR We have not switched to ArcGIS server 10.1, Some desktops upgraded to 10.1 and working on the rest.
Technology: GIS Server • Q11: Which Web API's are utilized by your organization? (JavaScript, Flex, Silverlight, Undecided) • OCIO • Flex (lot’s of code early, easy to get up and running, has it’s drawbacks) • JavaScript (pilot on mobile applications) • HTML5/CSS6 (integration with basic map features of other state web sites) • SharePoint ArcGIS Web Part (Silverlight) • DNR • Maps are Web ADF • JavaScript and have tested Flex • DNR is leaning toward JavaScript for future direction.
Technology: GIS Server Q12: Does your state GIS portal utilize the ArcGIS Server Geoportal Extension? Yes – Current existence and framework for NebraskaMAP
Technology: ArcGIS Online Q13: Are you currently publishing data and services via ArcGIS Online? OCIO No, currently discussing what this really means and implications to NebraskaMAP clearinghouse down the road DNR Not at this time nor do they have any cloud services Omaha / Douglas County is publishing some of the high resolution imagery to ArcGIS online
Technology: Cloud Computing • Q14: Are you currently using Cloud computing services? For example, a pre-built ArcGIS Server instance running in the Amazon Cloud or a Cloud-based storage solution? • OCIO • We are running development and production servers in our own virtual environment. • Discussing partnership with Omaha / Douglas County to pilot cache 2012 USDA NAIP Imagery in Amazon Cloud
Technology: Mobile Applications Q15: What, if any, mobile applications have been developed or are planned to be developed? What platforms are being supported (iOS, Android, Windows Mobile)? What technologies are being used? OCIOPilot projects with Javascript and HTML5 on basic boundary map applications DNR The Field Office personnel use ArcGIS basic stand-alone with tools designed to work both inside the network and out in the field. Dam Safety Engineers are now using a slate (table) PC with windows OS that can VPN into the network via built in 3g-4g connections. Game and Parks Commission Pocket Ranger (iOS and Android)

NSGIC – Web Services Working Group • NSGIC Web Services Working Group • Bert Granberg (UT) & Jake Mundt (WY) co-chairs • Geospatial Web Services Survey sent to all states this week • The survey contains a lot of potential web service goals to draw upon, as well as a broad listing of relevant technologies • The survey results will contain URLs to existing state web service resources and documentation • States with specific services in production, can later be asked to share best practices and lessons learned • States with similar service interests can collaborate on business cases and design • The results should guide future webinar and conference content in this area by both states and sponsors • The survey will establish a base line from which progress can be measured.
