Abstract Communty Splicing Black and White Non-objective Composition Balancing That Focuses on Texture and Value
Non-objective abstraction • Painting or drawing objects that do not have any visual relation to real world objects.
Abstraction • An object that has been altered or simplified but still holds identifiable relation to a real world object.
Homework 1 • Paste 2 small examples of non-objective and 2 examples of abstract 2D artworks into your Developmental Workbook (DW). * Write something remarkable beside each pasted picture.
Two Communities • Choose two communities that are visually and drastically different. • The 1st community must be Riyadh. For the 2nd, think in terms of how another country might look different such as a tropical and heavily foliaged one.
Splicing the two communities. • Tape the two printed images together (front to back). • Determine where you wish to make a 50/50 cut. • Draw the line for the splice and cut along the line. • Puzzle the two communities together with tape and choose one that you wish to draw. This will be your model for your artwork. • Draw a small black and gray contour line drawing in your DW about 4 x 6 inches. Use colored pencils.
The Final Project • Draw contour lines for the most obvious lines of the composition on an 18 x 24” sheet of paper. • Sketch in the textures and shapes with pencil into the negative space. • You may use black and gray pencils, charcoal, hi-fi grays pastels, ink wash, etc for the project.
Keys to Success • Make sure that your composition is interesting and dynamic. • Make sure that you have a balanced and wide range of value displayed. • Make sure that your mark making looks deliberate and significant. • Work with a sense of urgency as it is very important that you finish the project. • Due Date:
