Seminar OnMagnetic Susceptibility of FeCl3 Solution By- Mr. Vinayak Sutar
Theory Magnetic susceptibility : Simply the magnetic susceptibility of material is defined as ratio of the intensity of magnetisation to the magnetic intensity. χ = Magnetisation/magnetic intensity = M/H M is the magnetization of the material H is the intensity of magnetic field In other words ,the intensity of magnetization I induced at any point in a body is proportional to the strength of the applied field H. I=k H where, k=proportionality constant and called as magnetic susceptibility In S.I unit magnetic susceptibility has dimensionless unit, but in c.g.s system the unit is emu/gm.
Method of Measuring Magnetic Susceptibility Method Applicable to Diamagnetic and paramagnetic only • Faraday • Induction Dia-,para- and ferro- magnetic materials
The Quincke Method Consisting 'U' shape tube. There is reservoir at one arm to drop solution. While other arm of tube is placed magnetic field. When this tube is placed in magnetic field, the solution level increases or decreases. Paramagnetic solution show an increase in height of solution level , while diamagnetic solution show a decrease in height of solution level.
