Software Fundamentals Done by Shakila Sattar
Scenario and the Main Stakeholders Everybody now-a-days are linked to internet either for their work purpose or personal life purpose. And to keep their own privacy different security software has been introduced. Now a new concern over these security software is disrupting human race all over the world. A growing number of programs from smaller firms are aimed at the security market are available to download free of charge. Now the crisis is that maybe you are trying to protect your computer from a little bit of spyware and trying to download a free tool to get rid of but instead how much reliable are those tools that you are downloading? Instead you will find ten or more attacks onto the system! This is a bizarre situation and the primary stake holders, that is the customers are suffering form these. The main stakeholders are the producers of such free softwares and the people using these to get rid of small problems and creating a big one which is a threat to their privacy life.
Social or Ethical Issues One Big companies like Symantec, McAfee or Sophos offer huge suites of programs aimed at protecting our computer online. Beside these, as alternates, there are smaller firms that aim their software to be online and be free of charge (as trial packs). Which one of these would you prefer to purchase and use? The one where you know that there is safety guaranteed or the one where you would download one such free softwares and bring in the risk of computer bugs and creating that uncertainty of self-protection? Exclusion is often the only way society can defend itself, but would one rather leave their social life and be safe than risking ones own privacy? Two Accessibility is a very important issue for these internet users. If the companies like Symantec, McAfee, etc. are to charge a huge amount of bill where as the others are willing to reduce their charge, does that mean people will be more interested in these softwares rather than going for a safety net? But as you would imagine, some people - for example the manufacturers of products that you pay for - do not think it is such a good idea to trust the family data to a free security product?
So basically it adds up to the fact that ONE: Trust the trustees with fame or TWO: the trustees with easy accessible capacity?
The Main Problem with an Issue and its suggested Solution The main problem we are now facing is that is very difficult to stay safe online. Staying Safe Online Using anti-spyware and anti-virus programs On at least a weekly basis update anti-virus and spyware products Install a firewall and make sure it is switched on Making sure updates to operating system are installed Taking time to educate oneself and family members about the risks Monitoring computer and staying alert to threats
