  2. Who are we? I am interested in the Future because that is where I am going to spend the rest of my life ( Charles Kettering)

The Urban Unit • unit within the P&D Department to provide technical support in urban issues, staffed by professionals in the fields of urban planning, urban transport, SWM, WSS, institutional development, etc etc. • To Realize the Vision 2020 of the GoPb • Is working with technical assistance from the WB, support of the Punjab Govt and close collaboration with the LGs, in consultation with all the stakeholders towards a common goal of sustainable development .

  4. The Urban Unit Vision • When the future historian shall write the history of Cities in Punjab, s/he shall divide it into 2 distinct phases: • ‘Cities before the Urban Unit’ & • ‘Cities after the Urban Unit’

  8. What the Urban Unit can do for Cities ? • Prepare plans & Strategies • Carry out studies • Provide technical support • Facilitate Financing & spending • Capacity building • Any other collaboration

Urban Unit …. • Our role is to build the capacity of cities to shape and protect their own future.  We want • empowered and confident cities , with higher levels of democratic participation and citizen engagement for Urban Development • work together with Cities to offer more choice and quality in public services • address the issues of Transportation, Solid Waste, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Land use Planning

Lahore Cleaner and Greener • Addressing the issues of common property resources like Air and Water which are being polluted –Property Rights through Education • Learning and adopting local Public Participation Model for Environmental Issues – Multi stakeholders Partnership • Scale up innovative model addressing environmental issue and testing the principles
