  1. Research Information Systems, the Dutch way Marjan Vernooy-Gerritsen, SURFfoundation Bert van Zomeren, Delft University of Technology Delft University of Technology Challenge the future

  2. Agenda • The Dutch CRIS now: Metis • properties • position in the application landscape • baseline domain architecture • Future Dutch CRIS • wishes • challenges • target domain architecture • Next Steps Eunis workshop on Research Information Systems Bologna, March 2010 2

  3. Metis • Built and maintained by University Centre of Information Services at Radboud University in Nijmegen • Start in 1993 • Used by all 13 universities and the Royal Academy • Contains only metadata, no content • Central concept: Affiliation (relation between person and organisation) • Current version (2.x) is at the end of its life cycle Must be replaced Eunis workshop on Research Information Systems Bologna, March 2010 3

  4. Metis Entity Relationship diagram Eunis workshop on Research Information Systems Bologna, March 2010 4

  5. How is Metis Used? • differences between universities • differences within universities • between faculties • medical faculties! • for varying purposes Eunis workshop on Research Information Systems Bologna, March 2010 5

  6. Two Surveys • interfaces to other systems, to what purpose? • what functionality do we want to have in the future Eunis workshop on Research Information Systems Bologna, March 2010 6

  12. To recapitulate • all universities in .nl use metis (unique!) • great diversity between universities wrt use • even great diversity within universities • current metis is at the end of it’s life cycle • universities can (probably) reach agreement on a LEAN and MEAN replacement for metis..... • which is NOT a full text repository • which does NOT contain advanced workflow facilities • which does NOT offer advanced reporting facilities • which does NOT have a “My personal CRIS” facility • which IS able to interface to many different systems • which has a standard configuration Eunis workshop on Research Information Systems Bologna, March 2010 12
