Architect Meet with clients to figure out type, style and purpose of renovations or new building construction Design buildings and create plans, figure out building materials, costs and construction schedules Prepare sketches and models for clients Prepare or supervise the preparation of drawings, specifications and other construction documents for use by contractors and tradespersons Supervise activities on construction sites to give consent with specifications

  3. Education (Bachelor) Programs last five years and focus on architectural theory, structural design and construction methodology. Courses generally cover topics like environmental design and architectural documentation Receive instruction in the use of drafting tools and computer-aided design and drafting software. Also needs an internship to be qualified

Civil Engineer Meetwith clients and other members of the engineering team and conduct research to determine project requirements Plan and design major civil projects such as buildings, roads, bridges, dams, water and waste management systems Develop construction specifications and procedures Evaluate and recommend appropriate building and construction materials Ensure construction plans meet guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations

Eager civil engineers may look to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for a list of approved programs. High school students may consider advanced courses in mathematics, such as calculus and trigonometry to prepare for college.

Interior Designer Consult with clients to figure out needs, preferences, safety requirements and purpose of space Develop detailed plans and 3-D models showing placement of walls, lighting and other fixtures using computer-assisted design (CAD) software and graphics software Develop plans, detailed drawings, and advise on selection of colours, finishes and materials, interior and exterior lighting, furniture and other items Estimate costs and materials required

Education A professional program in interior design is required to get started Typically takes two to three years and awards a certificate or an associate degree Bachelor's degrees are available, programs in interior design may be accredited by the Council for Interior Design Most schools that offer interior design programs enroll students through art, architecture or design departments.
