INTRODUCTION The Technical University of Liberec is an organizer of the 7 th ECAPD (September 6-9, 2004). Liberec has a lot advantages for this candidature: 1) It is a cultural and historical center of North Bohemia. 2) It is near Prague and has a good trafic connection to Prague - the beautiful center of Europe. 3) Liberec has good technical possibilities to organize the international conference. 4) TUL has an experience with organization of ECMS conferences (together with University Paul Sabatier Toulouse). 5) Some working teams of the TUL are interessted in the areas close to the thematic activities of ECAPD. TOPICS 1. Material research: characterisation and understanding of the properties of inorganic and organic single crystals, thin films, ceramics, polymers, composites and liquid crystals. 2. Fundamental research on application -oriented physical properties of dilectrics: ferro-, piezo-, and pyroelectric properties, electro-optical and non-linear effects, photorefractivity and photoconductivity. 3. Device research: piezoelectric transducers, smart sensors and actuators, pyroelectric detectors, electro-optic modulators and displays, 2D and 3D optical storage devices, optical signal processors, optical frequency converters, periodically poled ferroelectric devices, ferroelectric memories and integrated optical devices, microelectromechanical systems. 4. Processing and fabrication technologies, technology transfer from research to the industry.
