  3. Definition • Non-profit model • Funded by City of Benicia thru Climate Action Plan • Trained student interns • Conduct residential energy audits • Recommend steps to reduce energy usage • Conduct residential water audits • Recommend steps to reduce water usage

Staffing • Oversight • Mike Marcus, Sustainability Coordinator – City of Benicia • Polly Farina, Career Technical Education Coordinator • Program Management • SAGE Audit Director (student identified in October) • SAGE Scheduling Director (student identified in October) • SAGE Finance Director (student identified in October)

  5. Training • Former BHS student energy auditors will train interns • Collaboration with HomeZ Audits, business partner • Must pass certification test • East Bay Municipal Utility District consultant to train for water audits • Must pass certification test

  6. Curriculum • Integrate program into current Virtual Enterprise/SAGE program • Future integration as internship for Green Academy capstone class • Utilize Solano ROP/Fairfield Waste Water Management curriculum

  7. Implementation Timeline • Summer 2009 – develop program specifics • Training schedule • Auditor application/selection process • Audit report templates • September 2009 – select interns • Applications due September 18 • Interviews September 21-25

  8. Implementation Timeline (cont) • October 2009 – Training begins • Energy Audit Training – 1st two weeks of October • Water Conservation Training – 2nd two weeks of October • November 2009 – Certificate and Program Kick-off • Certification testing – November 2-6 • Audit kick-off – November 10

Marketing • Newspaper article – September 2009 • Utility bill insert – by City over Sept/Oct 2009 • SAGE website • City website • Community Access Channel 6 commercial • Created by Virtual Enterprise/SAGE students • Flyers in Senior center, senior housing and low income housing • Poster in City Housing Bureau

BENEFITS • City reduces its carbon footprint and reduces its water consumption • City meets legislated climate change goals • Residents help conserve resources while saving money • Students learn relevance of their education and get paid • School District receives financial support for great educational program
