Rhetorical devices • 1. Diction- Slanted against the steel companies. The words used to describe them have poor connotations. “ruthless”, “unjustifiable”, “irresponsible”. • 2. Litotes- “imitated… instead of rescinded” adds emphasis to the fact that it was imitated. • 3. Allusion- To his other famous speech. “some time ago I asked each American to consider what he would do for his country.” This allusion his audience that they are in a state of distress and that every American even the steel companies need to sacrifice.
