S- president JFK • O- News conference regarding steel prices • A- American consumers • P- alleviate consumer’s worry • S- Addressing the economic distress • F- Climatic order , allusion, polysyndeton, parallelism • I- imagery, creates an image of the steel companies as the rich few trying to squeeze the masses. • D- lots of reasons why the prices shouldn’t be raised. Paragraphs 2,3,4,5,6,7. • D- simple diction to ensure everyone understands. Slanted against the corporations using words such as ruthless, unjustifiable, irresponsible. • S- complex sentence, lots of polysyndetons • T- justifiably angry

  5. Logos/Ethos/Pathos • Logos-Kennedy uses concrete examples • Ethos-Kennedy himself is a credible person • Pathos-Sympathizes the American people to think about the welfare of there country.

  6. Rhetorical devices • 1. Diction- Slanted against the steel companies. The words used to describe them have poor connotations. “ruthless”, “unjustifiable”, “irresponsible”. • 2. Litotes- “imitated… instead of rescinded” adds emphasis to the fact that it was imitated. • 3. Allusion- To his other famous speech. “some time ago I asked each American to consider what he would do for his country.” This allusion his audience that they are in a state of distress and that every American even the steel companies need to sacrifice.
