Module 1: Concepts of information Technology Main Parts of a Personal Computer
Main Parts of a personalcomputer • Central processing unit (CPU) • Hard disk • Common input and output devices • Types of memory
Definition of CPU The CPU (central processing unit) is the part of a computer controls the interpretation and execution of instructions. Intel® Pentium® Processor E6300 (2M Cache, 2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
What Does CPU Stand for • CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. • Its job is to process the instructions contained within computer programs. Type: The primary manufacturers of CPUs for personal computers are Intel and Advanced Micro Devices(AMD). Feature : CPU chips are generally very small and very thin Function : A microprocessor chip is a small piece of silicon containing thousands
Definition of Hard disk • In a personal computer, a hard disk drive (HDD) is the mechanism. • controls the positioning, reading, and writing of the hard disk • There are 2 types of hard disk. HDD : Samsung320GB SATA2 7200RPM 16M
Hard disk drive A hard drive is made up of 2 to 5 magnetic disks, each measuring at around 2.5 inches in diameter. It also has a motor, spindles, heads, controllers and an actuator. All the components are encased in metal. One of the advantages is that this type of hard drive contains many GB, such as 1 TB. This hard drive is located in computer, so we can’t bring to outside, but it is safe.
Portable Hard Disk A hard drive is made up of 2 to 5 magnetic disks, each measuring at around 2.5 inches in diameter. It also has a motor, spindles, heads, controllers and an actuator. All the components are encased in metal. Portable Hard Disk’s advantages are that we can carry it easily, and it contains lots of GB. However, they are easy to broken. There are many types of portable hard disks, which are 120GB, 160GB, 320 GB, 500 GB, and etc.
Input devices An input device is anything that puts information inside a computer
Output device An output device takes information form a computer and we can see it.
Types of memory RAM RAM or Random Access Memory is volatile memory that is erased when the power goes off. Program instructions and data held in RAM can be accessed and saved much more quickly than that held in permanent storage.
