What is Project SEARCH ? • An “Education to Employment” Transition Programme • A Business Led Partnership between Employer, Education and Supported Employment • Based on a model originating in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
What is Project SEARCH ? • Began with Employer frustration at high turnover in key positions, negative marketing of disabled people and multiple agency contacts daily • Programme that supports people with a Learning Disability into real, paid jobs • Matches skills with the right job • Training is done on the job, through a series of 3, 12 week internships, or unpaid work experience rotations. These rotations / internships are real jobs based at the employers premises • Students spend the whole day in the business, not in an education environment
What is Project SEARCH ? • Business Led: Collaboration between business, rehabilitation and education • Braided funding: maximize resources • On site support staff (transparent) • Complex and systematic jobs • Meets the needs of the business and the candidate with a disability • Universal Design, or reasonable adjustments to remove barriers

Project SEARCH – Aims & Objectives • To meet Employer needs in recruiting and retaining staff for Complex & Systematic Tasks • To break the cycle of “Continuous Education” • To enable Adult Students to gain practical skills and experience in the workplace • To prevent dependency on Adult Social Services • To enable candidates to understand the employment cycle • To support candidates by providing opportunities to have a significant presence on their CV and with access to a range of potential referee’s

My Work Placement Adam Role: Admin Assistant Time Period :12 weeks
Project Search UK • Project Search UK is a project helping people with learning difficulties to get in to employment. • Project Search UK then sends the students to do three or four work placements depends how far the support worker from Remploy thinks you are progressing. • Remploy is sponsoring Project Search they are the ones that have come up with the idea of Project Search UK they also employ disable people to work for them. • Then after your work placement you then go to college for a tutorial for one hour.
My Placements So Far • Work placements last 12 weeks you start at about 9:00 am and finish at 2:00pm from Monday to Friday and all work placements are work experience. • My first work placement was at the Central Lending Library and Reference Library some of the duties that I did was straining the books, stacking the books, on the counter answering enquires and joining new people to the library. • My second work placement was at the Leicester Adult Education College duties included dialling out to tutors, filing away, putting letters in the registers and dealing with enquires.
