Defining Effective School Planning A high performing school would be characterised by a School Plan that: • Links the school vision to an alignment of people, products, processes and procedures to the financial, resourcing and educational targets of the school. • Takes into account succession planning for future leadership, staff capabilities and school growth. • Is informed by a situational analysis of: student needs, student achievements (prior and ongoing), TARS and PARS professional goals. • Supports ongoing data collection and integrated evaluation.

Setting the Scene • Introduction of the new School Planning template. Conversation in table groups about the new template – first impressions and thoughts. • Establish 3 Teams to provide a quick snapshot of the school’s current practices • Teaching and Learning • Culture and Values • Student Engagement and Achievement
Activity 1: Identify Trends, Threats and Opportunities for the School • Code: red stickers for Trends, yellow stickers for Opportunities, black for Threats • Prioritise Trends and Threats • Prioritise the Opportunities • Record findings on butchers paper and report back

Activity Two: Identify 3 key directions • What is the future scope for the school? What products and practices would you like to see? • In each group, identify 3 key directions • Each group reports back to the main group
Activity Three: Integrate the 3 key directions with the 5P model In 3 new groups (based on membership from each of the above areas), choose one key direction and see if it can be developed within the 5 P template.
