  4. New Outreach 2010 Alcanzamiento v.2.0 Outreach is synonymous with partnerships. Collaboration with non-traditional library partners. Looking for opportunities in grant collaboration, library e-service expansion promotion, lending libraries within agencies, expert talks/workshops, private tours, non-traditional programs for non-library users, social media and available meeting room space.

  5. Who can do this? Fìjate en quien(effectively with little or no money sabemos que todos pueden) • Librarian/community member, Native Speaker, seasoned programmer. • In a position to sway library policy • Works closely with Administration • Exempt • Flexible schedule (nights and weekends) • Allowed to travel and work remotely

  6. What works! Esto si funciona • First meeting always in their turf • Bring clear ideas, concrete plans, and how the other agency fits in this collaboration. • Be ready to tweak to meet both organizations needs. • Apply to a board of directors (volunteer) that represent your interest group. Keeps you informed and meet decision makers • Give yourself time to work with Tribal Councils

  7. From personal experience…Laneta • Promote their events first, have their flyers at the library. • Host programs outside the library. (Book clubs at the local Starbucks) • Bring free advanced copies of books to collaborators. • Keep your eye out for titles or topics interesting to your partners. • Library cards for special groups.

  8. More ideas… Màs Nescafe… • Waive old fees, replace old cards • Answer your emails and voicemails • Keep visits short and to the point • Make your admin look good through the collaborations • Make realistic concessions as leverage. • Give your name and direct line. Be available, on call

  9. What to avoid Para nada • Even the perception of conflict of interest • Partners with visible & outspoken political ties, (the library is neutral) • Partnering too often with the same cluster of organizations (Headstart, school districts, ect…) • Partnerships because of tradition, it may be time to cut loose while in good terms.
