  5. Professional guidance • Joint Group (AOP/FODO, COpt, RCOphth DH(E)) • Develop Supplementary guidance • Good clinical practice • Referral guidance • Use of NCT • Referral in specific clinical scenarios

Reviewing Higher Qualifications • 32 sat recent Cert A in Glaucoma • Working in partnership with universities and other organisations • Higher qualifications working group - • Devised a new framework for Higher Qualifications • Set criteria for accreditation • Topics so far Glaucoma, Primary Care, Clinical Optometry

Local scheme in place for applanation tonometry and fields Increase in referrals since April 2009 Poor quality – only IOP given Goldmann or Perkins after NCT resulted in lowering 44.5% below 21 mmHg Increase in referrals mostly from practices not using scheme Evidence of the problem David Parkins, Bexley Care Trust 2009

  8. Summary • Supplementary guidance on the referral of glaucoma suspects by community optometrists (College of Optometrists and Royal College of Ophthalmologists) • Flexible and achievable means of attaining a specialist qualification
